Now that it’s clear that I’ll be working from home for awhile, it’s time to turn our office from the catch-all room it currently is into a place where I really want to spend time. The sewing supplies need to be packed up, the books and CDs will be sold or donated, and it generally needs some life to it. Maybe I’ll paint the stuff on the desk; I’ll definitely put up some pictures. My husband and I might need separate desks. I say might, because I’m attempting to do this for next to no money. We’ll see what Ikea has.
I’m always a sucker for before and after stories, so here’s the current set-up, warts and all.

Apartment Therapy linked to these WPA posters from the 1930s and 1940s. They’re gorgeous and many of them promote environmentalism, thrift, and the National Parks (like this one). The goverment should totally use these to increase US tourism.
I freaking love tulips. In Seattle, April and May were always tulip season. However, Disneyland had a bunch blooming while we were there. Changes in latitude… I bought some this weekend, convinced that they’re in season for California.

Bethany (who needs a website or something for me to link to) made this beautiful Christmas card this year. I’m a sucker for homemade cards.
In other news, not enough light is another reason for bad iPhone photos.

My mom bought these reindeer baby figurines from me during an elementary school fundraiser. I think I was in the fourth grade. I’m not sure when they passed to me, but they’re one of my daughter’s favorite Christmas decorations.

The “What Kate Is…” posts are on hold since I’m reducing my media use. (Although I may rework them to encourage better environmentalism.) Instead, here’s a link to everything I just read or marked to read in all of my RSS feeds.
There you have it: decorating, feminism, science fiction, business, parenting, and some clothes. That’s a pretty typical daily snapshot.
I really, really, really, really, really like this room.
That is all.
(Picture copied from one of the Apartment Therapy websites. I’ve forgotten which, but it’s probably either Green or San Francisco.)
I’ve begun to collect ideas for decorating the house we’ll eventually buy, even though we don’t have one picked out yet and really aren’t looking for one. Premature? Probably, but I’d like to be able to move quickly once we actually do buy, even though that may be a year away.
I love this, not so much for the chandelier itself as for the J. Peterman-esque commentary along side it.
Darling, isn’t it obvious that I deserve to be the centerpiece? Yet people are always trying to pigeonhole me. They stick me in some silly nook or on a side table, like an after-thought. But, darling, I’ve come to realize that they’re just intimidated by my fabulousness. Most people wouldn’t know true class if it walked right up and lit their Lucky Strike.
