I’m totally writing this only to test out the new wordpress iPhone app. My husband bought the new 3G phone and I got his old one. It’s a great toy. All of the posts with pictures from the weekend were written via the phone. The app has some issues – I can only add pictures to the bottom of a post and it’s got all the typing pain you’d expect. But they’ve updated it. I’m seeing if it’s any better.
Anyway, here’s a picture:

I’ll be nice and say that I didn’t think through that last post very well, as evidenced by its all-over-the-place-ness. I am no longer allowed to write long posts off the top of my head on my lunch hour when I’m stressed about other things.
I’ve got exactly eight minutes available to write something. Now seven. Dammit.
Hi. I am still here, I do still exist, I do still consider this blog to not be dead. I have reasons — lots of work, illnesses (mine and other family members), and writer’s block.
Six minutes.
I’m still not over the writer’s block, I don’t know what to write about or what to write. Should I talk about the perils of parenthood (not having any time for friends) or the latest story about my kid (she won’t go into the backyard if she thinks there might possibly maybe be a bee out there) or my new garden (I’m trying to grow vegetables this year! we didn’t harvest the arugula in time and its all gone to seed but I’m hopeful about the jalapenoes and sunflowers) or even a damn What Kate Is post.
Three minutes.
How about a quick no-link what Kate is post? I can do that. What Kate Is:
- Reading: Pattern Recognition by William Gibson. I’ve got some Generation X anti-brand things to maybe say about that.
- Listening to: The Mosquitos in on constantly in the car
- Watching: Yay! Season four of Doctor Who. I love Catherine Tate as the new companion.
- Cooking: Salmon and Farfalle for supper last night. Other than that, the stomach flu sort of precluded eating for a few days
One more minute. Lots more writer’s block. It won’t take me more than three weeks to update next time. I swear!
All done.
I’m not sure this color-scheme-layout-theme thing is going to stick around long, but it’s better than the default. I think.
Be kind. I’m still learning how things work over here.
This is me, checking out new blogging software. Hmmm….
FWIW, I went ahead and opened up the comments to anyone — you no longer have to be signed in with a blogger account. (I resisted because I’m a little paranoid about spam comments.)
Even though I’ve pretty much stopped posting except for book reviews, I’m going to make it official: the book reviews and What Kate Is posts are going to be all there is until I find a job. Because I need to find a job.
If you’ve had problems signing in to leave comments, I think I finally figured out the problem. Blogger upgraded its software, which you wouldn’t know unless you maintained your own blog. I’d bet that they also left behind all the accounts that didn’t have a blog associated with them. How not user friendly of them.
For those of you who use the RSS feed, sorry about all the gunk in there. I’m going through and tagging my old posts, and moving the book reviews from the book blog over here. My goal is to finish by Sunday night. Just FYI.
I upgraded to the new beta blogger service simply because I wanted to be able to tag my posts. (Now I just have to go back and tag them all.) I really don’t like the way the tags are displayed at the bottom of the posts. I want them to be in small type next to the “posted by kated” bits at the bottom of the post. Alas, they’re not. I may play around with that to see if I can fix it over the next few days.
Given that, as far as I can tell, the book blog only gets traffic when I link to it from here, I’m going to give up separating out the book posts. I’ll slowly start moving any that weren’t originally here to Kate’s Blog. I’ll use the original dates, so they shouldn’t get in the way of any new posts. Once that’s done, I’ll delete Kate’s Books.
In other news, since looking after a three-year-old isn’t really condusive to finding a job, I need to find other ways to generate revenue. That means I’m going to have to put some advertising here, and I’ll put out a small plea to please buy anything that I recommend from Amazon through these links. You may also see some I’m-selling-this announcements, too.
Hm. I created this blog as an exercise for work. But now I’m curious…
